Careers and study

Career & Study Planner (US & UK, England rules) | Courses and Careers, Excel + Worksheets

Help your teen plan studies and a career: Excel workbook, worksheets and guide, options compared on their criteria, budget, key dates (US, England).

Who it is for

Middle school students with an adult, high school students, college or university students who want to switch, adults changing careers, and the parents or carers who support them. Designed to be bought by an adult and filled in with them; inside, the planner talks to the young person directly.

What you get

Help your teen (or yourself) choose studies and a career with a plan, not with pressure: what interests them, the setting they see themselves in, options compared on their own criteria, the budget and the official dates, in one Excel workbook and printable worksheets.

Coverage

US rules in the US workbook, England rules in the UK workbook (details under What you get).

What you get

  • Career-Study-Planner-US.xlsx and Career-Study-Planner-UK.xlsx – one workbook for the US, one for the UK, 12 tabs each, native formulas only: Start Here, My Profile (30 statements, strengths, values, how I like to work), My Environment (preferences, must-haves, jobs near where you live), Options (up to 12 jobs, courses or paths scored on your weighted criteria), Budget (a typical year of study, or a career change), Key Dates, Action Plan, a one-page Summary, Free Help, All Dates, Sources and Lists.
  • 4 sample workbooks per country, filled in by made-up people: Noah (middle school or Year 11), Lina (high school senior or Year 13), Sami (switching course), Nadia (career change); file names end with -US or -UK.
  • UK workbook: England rules for student finance and adult courses; links for Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland (to check).
  • Printable worksheets: 16 pages, US Letter and UK A4, to fill in with a pencil.
  • A 22-page guide (PDF) with real screenshots: how to use each tab, US and UK study money, key dates (FAFSA, UCAS), career change, the 4 samples explained.

Calculated for you

Your scores for six interest types and your three letters, your top strengths and values, a score for each option on your own weighted criteria, deal-breakers when a must-have isn't met, what is still 'to check', the amount left to pay each year, the savings needed for a career change, your key dates sorted for your profile, and your next five actions.

What the kit does not do

  • It's not a psychological test: the statements are inspired by Holland's public model of six interest types and have not been studied scientifically.
  • It's not a substitute for a careers adviser: the public services (school counselors, college and university career services and American Job Centers in the US; careers advisers and the National Careers Service in the UK) are listed in the kit.
  • It's not legal, tax or financial advice: budgets and student finance figures are estimates; the official calculators and agencies decide.
  • It promises no admission, no qualification and no job.
  • It collects no data: the file stays on your computer.
  • Official dates were checked on 18 October 2026; those for 2027 that weren't published are marked 'to check'.

What the kit gives you

Public services and websites are there to help, and many of them are free: the kit gathers their links and your answers in one place and helps you compare. It replaces none of them.

Quality

No macros. Built in Excel with functions that Google Sheets also supports (no macros, no XLOOKUP, LET, LAMBDA or dynamic arrays). If you import it into Google Sheets, check charts, colours and drop-down lists after import. Recalculated in Excel with 0 formula errors and checked against an independent calculation of the sample data.
