Retirement Planner (UK) | State Pension Age, NI Record, Pension Pots, Budget, Excel

Plan your retirement in Excel: your State Pension age and forecast, National Insurance gaps, other pensions, a dated checklist and your budget before and after.

Who it is for

People 50 to 67 in the UK and family members helping them.

What you get

Your State Pension age and forecast, your National Insurance gaps, your other pensions, a dated checklist and your budget before and after, in one Excel planner with an 18-page guide.

What you get

  • Retirement-Planner-UK.xlsx – 12 tabs, for one or two people:
    • Start Here: what it does, 7 steps, colour code, what it doesn't do, family members, notices.
    • My Details: dates of birth, nation, stop-work dates, take-home pay; your State Pension age and date, claim dates, Pension Wise from 50, minimum pension age, Winter Fuel Payment 2026 to 2027.
    • State Pension: your GOV.UK forecast, qualifying years, gaps and their cost (typed from the service), deferring (1% for every 9 weeks), the amount used in the budget.
    • Other Pensions: workplace and personal pensions listed with their planned start, Pension Tracing Service, Pension Wise.
    • Timeline: every dated step per person, status, your next 12 steps sorted.
    • Budget Before & After: today, after the first stops work, after both stop; help to check (Pension Credit, Winter Fuel Payment).
    • Savings & Goals: accounts listed without advice, cushion in months, dated goals.
    • Documents: 20 papers to gather and where to find them.
    • Summary: one A4 page to print.
    • Free Help: GOV.UK services, Pension Wise, MoneyHelper, Pension Tracing Service.
    • Sources: dated facts, OGL attribution.
    • Lists: drop-downs.
  • Retirement-Planner-UK-SAMPLE.xlsx – the same planner filled in with a fictitious couple (Priya and Tom).
  • Retirement-Planner-Guide-UK.pdf – 18 pages (A4): the rules explained with the sample, real screenshots, dated sources.

What it works out

Your State Pension age and date, claim dates, the yearly and monthly value of your forecast, the extra amount and cost of filling gaps (from the figures the service shows), deferring, your other pensions by start date, three budget periods, and Pension Credit and Winter Fuel Payment checks. In the sample, Priya and Tom keep £110 a month after both stop working: a calculation on fictitious data, not a promise.

What it does not do

  • Doesn't calculate your State Pension or other pensions: your forecast and your schemes do.
  • Doesn't tell you when to claim, whether to pay voluntary contributions or what to do with your pots, and doesn't recommend any investment, account or provider.
  • No tax calculation.
  • The State Pension age is under review: check GOV.UK before you decide.
  • Rules dated 18 October 2026; nothing is sent, the file stays on your computer.

Quality

Native Excel formulas, recalculated in Excel with 0 formula errors and checked against an independent calculation of the sample; every official rule is dated and sourced. Built in Excel with functions that Google Sheets also supports (no macros, no XLOOKUP, LET, LAMBDA or dynamic arrays). If you import it into Google Sheets, check charts, colours and drop-down lists after import.
